Miss Saigon’s Hugh Maynard launches his debut solo album

Hugh Maynard in Miss SaigonHugh Maynard will be delighting West End audiences as he reprises the role of John in Cameron Mackintosh’s highly anticipated new production of Miss Saigon which has its press launch today 21 May 2014 at Prince Edward Theatre, London.

Hugh Maynard says: ‘It’s a great honour and privilege to be playing the role of John again with such a talented cast in this wonderful new production of Miss Saigon.

Hugh was the youngest person ever to play the part of John in the touring production of Miss Saigon in 2004. ‘Hugh is absolutely one of the best people who ever played this role.’ said Cameron Mackintosh

Much of the audience will not know the personal suffering and heartache behind Hugh’s accomplished performance each night. Hugh was abandoned by his mother at just a few weeks old. He spent the first eight years of his life in and out of residential care and foster homes where he experienced further abuse. It is these experiences of abandonment and childhood suffering that Hugh draws upon in order to portray the role.

Through the love and support of his foster family and a wealth of close and caring friends, Hugh was helped through his formative years until successfully achieving a scholarship to University and Drama School.

Hugh made his West End debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar playing Simon. Since then he has appeared in the Lion King, Notre Dame de Paris, Follies, Dancing in the Streets and Sister Act.

Hugh has enjoyed success touring the UK, Europe and America singing with the rock group the Tenors of Rock. Hugh also performed at the 2012 London Olympic Games concert and sang with the Tenors of Rock on the X Factor series in 2013 reaching the judges home stage with Gary Barlow.

Today Hugh lives in Lincolnshire and when not acting or singing, mentors disadvantaged children through local charities and disabled children with the charity ‘ACTION FOR CHILDREN.’ He lectures in seminars for professionals in the care system on how to help children who have suffered from neglect or abuse to become personal achievers and valued members in their community.
